Todos Santos Retreat Digest (7/10/25)

It’s been another week here in Todos Santos, and while it’s felt like a regular seven days, there’s been a subtle shift in the air. It’s this time of year when the weather begins to ease up; the days have been pleasant and the nights comfortably cool. It’s a gentle reminder that the heart of summer is behind us and a hint of autumn is on the horizon.

As I walked down Calle Benito Juárez, I passed by the cultural center where a quiet art opening was taking place. The featured artist was a local resident who found inspiration in the serene landscapes of the area. His works, a collection of oil paintings depicting scenes from Punta Lobos to La Poza, brought a fresh perspective to familiar places. It was a reminder of the ever-changing beauty that surrounds us in this part of Baja California Sur.

Over at the market, the harvest has shifted as well. The stalls were brimming with a variety of fruits and vegetables, but one particular produce caught my attention – the avocados. They’re now at their peak, incredibly creamy and perfect for making guacamole or simply enjoying on toast. It’s moments like this when I’m reminded of the simple pleasures of living in Todos Santos.

On the environmental front, there’s been a buzz about sea turtles. It’s the nesting season, and these creatures are a wonder to observe. Their journey, from the sea to the beach and back again, is a testament to the power of instinct and survival. If you’re lucky, you might just catch a glimpse of this fascinating spectacle on one of the nearby beaches.

Not far from here, in nearby Pescadero, a story caught my ear. There’s a multinational company planning to start an open pit gold mining operation. The local community, along with the staff of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas, is rallying together to protect their land and biodiversity. It’s a stark reminder of the challenges that come with progress and the importance of preserving our natural resources.

Another story that’s made a splash is about a local free diving champion. Born and raised in Baja California Sur, she’s taken the diving world by storm. Her tale of overcoming fears and finding peace in the depths of the ocean is truly inspiring. It’s a testament to the human spirit and its ability to adapt and thrive, much like the town of Todos Santos itself.

This week’s events have served as a subtle reminder of the rhythms of life here in Todos Santos. From the shift in the weather to the local stories that echo through the town, it’s been a week of quiet observations and small changes. Yet, these are the moments that make every Todos Santos retreat special in its own unique way.

As I wrap up this weekly update, I find myself looking forward to the days ahead. There’s always something new evolving here, a fresh perspective to discover, or a story to unearth. And as the weather continues to change, I’m eager to see how the town of Todos Santos will evolve along with it.
