Todos Santos Retreat Digest (10/9/25)

As we roll into our second week of June in Todos Santos, you can feel a definite shift in the weather. The days are starting to heat up, with the highs creeping into what I’d call ‘shorts and flip-flops’ territory. Still, the evenings are cool enough for a light sweater, especially if you’re headed down to Punta Lobos to watch the sunset. The contrast between the warm days and cool nights is one of the things I love about this time of year in Todos Santos. It’s a gentle reminder of the change in seasons, and a nudge to appreciate these last few weeks of spring before the full force of summer arrives.

Keeping on the theme of change, I took a walk along Calle Benito Juárez this week and noticed a few new additions to our local art scene. It seems the quiet is providing a fertile ground for creativity. A particular piece, sprawled across a once-dull wall, caught my eye. The vibrant colors and intricate design were a stark contrast to the surrounding town’s rustic charm. It was a clear sign of the local talent we have here, and a reminder that Todos Santos is always evolving, even in the quiet times.

Speaking of local talent, there’s a whisper about a small art opening happening this weekend. It’s a low-key affair, as is the norm these days, but it’s heartening to see the local art community finding ways to share their work and keep the cultural heartbeat of Todos Santos alive. The cultural center might be quieter than usual, but the spirit of creativity is alive and well in the streets of our town.

Over in the market, the shift in seasons is also apparent. The stalls are starting to fill with early summer produce – think juicy mangoes and ripe tomatoes. There’s nothing quite like the taste of a mango fresh from the tree, especially when you’ve watched it grow over the months. It’s one of those simple pleasures that make living in Todos Santos so rewarding.

And let’s not forget our local wildlife. During a walk near La Poza, I was lucky enough to spot a sea turtle making her way back to the ocean after nesting. It’s a sight I never grow tired of and a reminder of the incredible biodiversity we have here in Baja California Sur. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a baby turtle making its first journey to the sea – a truly magical sight and something I feel privileged to witness.

As we look towards the upcoming week, it seems we’re in for more of the same weather-wise – warm days and cool nights. So, whether you’re a local or a visitor enjoying a Todos Santos retreat, there’s plenty to see and do. From quiet art openings to turtle sightings, and delicious local produce, it’s another wonderfully ordinary week in Todos Santos. But then, in a town as special as this, ‘ordinary’ is pretty extraordinary.
