Todos Santos Retreat Digest (10/16/25)

As I sit here in Todos Santos, savoring a lukewarm cup of coffee and observing the town waking up to another sunny day, I can’t help but reflect on the subtle changes that come with the passing weeks.

Weather-wise, the past week has been a mixed bag. We’ve moved from slightly nippy nights to somewhat warmer days. It’s that time of year when the weather can’t seem to make up its mind — one day you’re reaching for a light sweater, the next you’re considering a dip in the Pacific to cool off. The transition from the freshness of spring to the heat of summer is always a fascinating time at our Todos Santos retreat.

Meandering along Calle Benito Juárez, I noticed a quiet buzz around the cultural center. A new art exhibit had opened, attracting an interesting crowd. The exhibit, understated yet impactful, reminds us of the rich tapestry of creativity that weaves itself into the fabric of this town. It’s not the grandeur of a big city gallery opening, but more like a gathering of friends appreciating the beauty in simplicity — a perfect reflection of Todos Santos itself.

At the local market, the shift in seasons is evident. There’s an abundance of fresh produce, with stalls showcasing their vibrant colors and inviting aromas. The sight of the bounty is a reassuring sign of the earth’s abundance and the care our local farmers put into their work.

Speaking of the earth, there’s been some chatter around town on the topic of conservation. A few locals have been actively opposing a proposed mining operation in the nearby biosphere reserve. Their dedication to protecting our natural surroundings is commendable, reminding us of the importance of preserving the balance between development and conservation. It’s a topic that’s close to the heart of many a Todos Santos resident.

On a lighter note, there’s been some fun happening at Punta Lobos. A group of sea turtles decided to make a dramatic appearance, much to the delight of beachgoers. It’s always a marvelous sight to witness these ancient creatures gracing our shores.

Meanwhile, the free divers have been making waves. Their growing presence in the area is a testament to the allure of our waters. The stories they share of their underwater experiences are nothing short of awe-inspiring. It’s not every day you get to hear about someone’s journey deep into the ocean’s depths, guided only by their breath and a profound sense of adventure.

On a musical note, a small band has been creating a stir with their performances at a local winery. Their relaxed tunes seem to perfectly complement the laid-back atmosphere of Todos Santos. It’s always a pleasure to stumble upon these impromptu performances that add a touch of vibrancy to our evenings.

And so the weeks go by in Todos Santos, each bringing with it a new rhythm, a new narrative. From the ebb and flow of the tides at La Poza to the lively chatter in the cafes along Calle Juárez, the town moves to its own beat. It may not always be exciting, but it is always real. And that’s what makes Todos Santos such a special place to be — the knowledge that we’re not just observers, but a part of the story unfolding around us.

As we look forward to the week ahead, who knows what it will bring? Perhaps a shift in the weather, a new face in town, or a surprising discovery. But one thing’s for sure, there will always be something worth sharing about our beloved Todos Santos.
