Todos Santos Retreat Digest (10/23/25)

Another week has passed in Todos Santos, bringing with it the usual shifts in weather, happenings, and mood that make life in this laid-back retreat so enjoyable. As always, the days were warm, but not too hot, with temperatures hovering around what you’d expect for the end of June. The nights, on the other hand, were cool and comfortable — just right for a stroll down Calle Benito Juárez or a quiet evening at the cultural center.

This week, the town was abuzz with news from the Baja California Sur. The ongoing land use and ownership issues in the region have sparked some interesting conversations, especially among the staff at the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP). It appears that they’re employing a unique strategy to protect the UNESCO-certified natural area they’ve been charged with safeguarding — invoking the powerful forces of nature and calling in the botanists. It’s a reminder of how deeply connected we are to the land here, and how important it is to protect and preserve it for future generations.

There was also a bit of excitement in the world of marine life this week. Apparently, the sea turtles are in the midst of their nesting season, and the local scientists are having a field day studying their fascinating reproductive habits. The phrase “multiple paternity” has been thrown around quite a bit, leading to some rather amusing discussions among the locals. It’s a reminder of the rich biodiversity that thrives just off the coast of Todos Santos retreats and the unique opportunities we have to observe and learn from it.

On a more human note, I had the chance to chat with a competitive free diver who spends quite a bit of time in the waters off Todos Santos. She shared a bit about the mental and physical challenges she faces each time she dives, the sense of fear and exhilaration that comes with plunging into the depths of the ocean. Her description of the free fall — like flying, but in slow motion — was particularly striking. It’s a world away from the tranquil streets and quiet beaches of Todos Santos, but it’s all part of the rich tapestry of life here.

Speaking of life in Todos Santos, the local music scene continues to thrive. There were a couple of concerts this week, one at the vineyard of Las Tinajas and another at La Morena. Both featured a mix of original music and tributes, reflecting the diverse influences and creative energy of the local musicians. It’s always a treat to see local artists like Klaudya Vega and Jenelle Aubade bringing their unique talents to the stage, and there’s always a sense of community and shared enjoyment at these events.

As we look ahead to the coming week, the weather forecast suggests more of the same — warm days, cool nights, and plenty of sunshine. Whether you’re exploring the local market, taking a dip in the waters of La Poza, or just enjoying the view from Punta Lobos, there’s always something to appreciate in Todos Santos. Until next time, stay grounded, stay observant, and remember to enjoy the simple pleasures of life in this wonderful retreat.
