Todos Santos Retreat Digest (1/29/26)

Just another week in Todos Santos, where life has a rhythm all its own. The weather continues to play its part in our everyday life, swaying gently between cool mornings and balmy afternoons. The temperatures have been kind to our little retreat, with just enough heat in the day to make a dip in the ocean at Punta Lobos feel like a reward, and just enough chill in the evening to make a light sweater feel like a hug.

And speaking of the ocean, it seems our sea turtles have been having quite a social season. Scientists have observed that the female sea turtle is a bit of a social butterfly, storing the sperm of multiple partners and then choosing when to fertilize her eggs. Given this, it’s probably safe to say that our turtle population is not just surviving, but thriving.

Speaking of thriving, a recent art opening at the cultural center was a quiet affair, but no less inspiring. Local artists continue to draw inspiration from our natural surroundings, and it’s always interesting to see their unique interpretations. Art in Todos Santos isn’t just contained within gallery walls, though. Walking down Calle Benito Juárez, one can’t help but notice the vibrant street art that has become a signature of the town.

On the more serious side, there’s been some attention on the issue of land use and land ownership in Baja California Sur. It seems that the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) is facing down a multinational company looking to start a gold mining operation. They’re calling on botanists to help protect the area, a reminder that even in a place as idyllic as this, there are battles to be fought.

Moving over to Pescadero, the vineyard at Las Tinajas has become a popular spot for sunset cheers. They’ve been hosting some live music events recently, providing a pleasant soundtrack to the end of the day. Not far from there, in Cerritos, there’s been talk of a “Rose Party” at a local winery. While not a public landmark, it’s a well-known gathering spot for locals and visitors alike.

Finally, in the world of sports, a shoutout to Estrella Navarro Holm. This champion free diver has been making waves (no pun intended) with her deep dives into the ocean. Her descriptions of the experience are nothing short of poetic, and it’s clear that she’s not just competing, but connecting with the ocean in a profound way.

So, there you have it. Just another week in Todos Santos. But at our retreat, we know that there’s no such thing as just another week. Each one brings its own magic, its own surprises, and its own stories. As always, we’re just here to observe, to experience, and to share.
