Todos Santos Retreat Digest (5/28/26)

As the sun sets on another week in Todos Santos, the air is tinged with the scent of the sea and a hint of coming warmth. It’s been a typical week in our little Baja corner – a blend of the old and the new, the quiet and the vibrant.

After a few days of slightly chillier weather, the warmth of spring is returning to our Todos Santos retreat. It’s not quite the time to pack away your sweaters just yet, but the days of needing them are numbered. The ocean breeze has been a touch brisk in the mornings at Punta Lobos, but by mid-day, the sun has warmed the sands, making for perfect beach lounging weather.

One of the charms of Todos Santos is the way it blends the traditional with the contemporary, and this week was no exception. Over at the cultural center, a quiet art opening showcased the works of local artists, a colorful blend of the abstract and the realistic. The art scene here remains as vibrant and diverse as the town itself, a testament to the creative energy that thrives in this place.

Meanwhile, the market was bustling with life – the early spring produce coming into season. It’s always a treat to see what’s fresh and new, and this week, it was a bounty of ripe avocados and tangy limes – perfect for homemade guacamole or a refreshing limeade.

Further afield, in Pescadero and Cerritos, there’s been talk of botanists being called in to deal with a potential land dispute. It’s a reminder, perhaps, that even in paradise, the pull between progress and preservation is a constant tug-of-war.

On a lighter note, a group of sea turtles have become the topic of town gossip. It seems the female turtles have been keeping the local marine biologists busy with their multiple paternity nests, adding a bit of mystery and intrigue to the local wildlife scene.

A little closer to home, a local free diving champion has been making waves – quite literally. The courage and determination of people like Estrella Navarro Holm never cease to amaze me. The ocean can be a daunting place, and yet, there are those who embrace it, diving headfirst into the unknown with nothing more than a lungful of air and a spirit of adventure.

Over at the winery, the music scene was alive with local talent. The Jenelle Aubade trio, along with Dylan Lorenzo and José Blanco, put on a lively performance for the wine club members. Music, like wine, seems to flow freely in Todos Santos, each note a testament to the town’s vibrant culture.

And that’s how it’s been this week in Todos Santos – a blend of the everyday and the extraordinary. From the shifting weather patterns to the quiet art openings, from the market’s bounty to the sea turtles’ nesting habits, it’s all part of the rhythm of life here. Just another week in paradise, as they say. Until next time, stay sunny, Todos Santos.
