Todos Santos Retreat Digest (5/28/26)

It’s been an interesting week here in our Todos Santos retreat. As always, the town’s been humming with a quiet undercurrent of activity, and the weather has been playing along nicely, giving us cooler mornings and evenings, with the days warming up just enough to remind us we’re in Baja.

Walking around town, I noticed a shift in the landscape at Punta Lobos. It seems the natural forces are at work, reshaping the terrain in their slow, methodical way. Made me think about those botanists the staff at CONANP called in all those years ago to help protect the area against the threat of open pit gold mining. Nature’s resilience, with a little help from its human advocates, never ceases to amaze me.

Speaking of nature, I heard a fascinating anecdote about sea turtles this week. Apparently, female sea turtles have a unique reproductive system that allows for what scientists call “multiple paternity.” A single clutch of eggs can have multiple fathers, meaning baby sea turtles might never know their daddies. That’s nature for you – always full of surprises.

On my walks along La Poza, I often find myself thinking about Estrella Navarro Holm. I remember reading about her experiences with free diving, how she described it as a beautiful, spiritual experience. Even though I’m more inclined to stay above water, I can’t help but admire her courage and dedication.

Over at the cultural center, there was a quiet art opening. It was a small gathering, with a handful of artists showcasing their work. There wasn’t any fanfare, no big to-do, just locals appreciating local art. Sometimes, it’s these small, unassuming events that leave the biggest impressions.

The local market in Calle Benito Juárez was bustling with fresh produce this week. The weather’s been kind to the farmers, it seems. The fruits and vegetables were vibrant, practically bursting with life. It’s always a pleasure to see the fruits of their labor.

As for the music scene, there were a few small gigs happening around town. Nothing big or flashy, just some musicians sharing their craft. There’s something soothing about live music wafting through the air as the sun sets. It’s one of the things that makes Todos Santos special.

So that’s been the week in our little corner of the world. Nothing earth-shattering, no big events, just the comforting rhythm of everyday life in our Todos Santos retreat. Until next week.
