Todos Santos Retreat Digest (10/15/26)

Greetings from the sunny streets of Todos Santos! It’s been another picturesque week here, with the weather shifting towards more of that classic Baja warmth. The nights are still on the cooler side, but nothing a light sweater can’t handle. The days? Well, they’ve been the kind of warm that has you seeking out the shade of Punta Lobos or the cool waters of La Poza. Perfect weather for a leisurely Todos Santos retreat.

Strolling down Calle Benito Juárez, there’s a quiet buzz in the air. There’s been a bit of chatter about a multinational company eyeing up our UNESCO-certified natural area for a gold mining operation. Those who are in the know, like the staff of CONANP, are looking to the earth, invoking the powerful forces of nature. It’s a fascinating situation, and one that I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about in the coming weeks.

It’s not all serious business, though. The sea turtles have started their nesting season, and trust me, you haven’t lived until you’ve seen these ancient creatures going about their business. The whole process is a marvel of nature, with the females storing the sperm from multiple mates before finally deciding it’s time to nest. It’s a humbling reminder of the incredible biodiversity we’re privileged to share this town with.

On a somewhat related note, I had a chat with a local free diving enthusiast this week. She shared some of her experiences diving off the coast here, talking about the mental challenges and the incredible sense of peace she feels once she’s in the water. She described the sensation of free falling into the ocean as a deeply spiritual experience, which I found pretty fascinating. It’s not something I’ve ever tried myself, but if you’re the adventurous type, it could be worth exploring during your Todos Santos retreat.

There’s also been a bit of a stir over at the local vineyard, Las Tinajas. The Wine Club has some new faces, and there’s been talk of music, tapas, and sunset cheers. It sounds like a delightful way to end the day, and an excellent opportunity to sample some of the local wines.

Speaking of endings, the popular venue La Morena is retiring. There’s been an outpouring of local love and appreciation for the place, which has been a hub for delicious food and local music for years. There’s a farewell concert in the works, which is sure to be a night to remember.

As always, the week has brought a variety of experiences here in Todos Santos. From the serene beauty of our natural surroundings to the lively buzz of local happenings, there’s always something to observe and appreciate. Whether you’re visiting the cultural center, exploring nearby Pescadero or Cerritos, or simply soaking up the sun on a quiet retreat, this little corner of the world is full of surprises. Until next week, enjoy the warmth, the turtles, and of course, the wine.
