Just another week here in Todos Santos, but as always, there’s a bit of everything going on. It’s been quite a warm week, just like the ones you expect around this time of the year. The days have been hot and the nights have brought that much-appreciated cool breeze from Punta Lobos. If you’ve been around La Poza these days, you might have noticed locals and visitors alike finding respite from the heat, enjoying the calm waters.
As I strolled down Calle Benito Juárez, I noticed an art opening at the cultural center. It was a quiet affair with a collection of beautiful local art, capturing the essence of our little town. It’s always a joy to see the creativity that thrives in this community. The opening served as a reminder of the talent that lives and breathes in this retreat, far from the bustling city life.
Wandering a little further, I found myself at the local market. It’s a place where you can always find something interesting. This week, the market was brimming with lush, fresh produce. The bounty reminded me of the abundance that the warm weather brings to our Todos Santos retreats. It’s the time for juicy mangoes, vibrant tomatoes, and crunchy bell peppers. And if you’re lucky, you might even find some local honey to sweeten your mornings.
Even amidst the everyday life, Todos Santos has its share of intrigue. There’s been some chatter about a multinational company trying to set up an open-pit gold mining operation nearby. The staff of CONANP, our local conservation body, is doing everything they can to protect our precious natural areas. It’s not every day you see botanists being hailed as heroes, but here we are.
The sea turtles have returned to our shores, a spectacle that never ceases to amaze, reminding us of the miracles of nature. Every year, these incredible creatures journey thousands of miles to lay their eggs on the beaches of Todos Santos. A spectacle that continues to captivate locals and visitors alike.
Meanwhile, in the depths of the ocean, Mexican free-diving champion Estrella Navarro Holm has been making waves, quite literally. She’s a force to be reckoned with, diving into the dark waters armed with nothing but her determination and training. It’s stories like these that make you appreciate the strength and spirit of our community.
The nearby areas of Pescadero and Cerritos have also been bustling with activity. Over at Pescadero, a local band was putting on a show at the vineyard of Las Tinajas. You could hear the music and laughter echo through the night, a testament to the vibrant energy of our town. And at Cerritos, the locals were bidding a fond farewell to a beloved local venue, La Morena, with an adios concert filled with music, love, and appreciation.
So, that’s our week in Todos Santos. Nothing out of the ordinary, but always something to appreciate. A quiet art opening, the bustling market, the return of the sea turtles, a concert under the stars, and the ever-present warmth of the sun. Just another week in our beloved retreat, Todos Santos. Until next time.
