Todos Santos Retreat Digest (10/23/25)

The past week in Todos Santos has been nothing short of interesting. Mostly, it’s been about the simple things – the shift in weather, a quiet art opening, what’s growing at the market – but there’s also been a bit of the unexpected. This is not a place that stands still, even when it seems like it does.

Settling into the Heat

After last week’s surprising cool spell, the weather has been acting more like itself again. The days are back to being warm, not too hot, but you can feel the heat creeping up as the week progresses. It’s the kind of weather that makes you think of long afternoons at La Poza or Punta Lobos, and of the markets bursting with the season’s produce. But that’s for later in the week, when the heat will really settle in. For now, it’s just nice to have the sun back.

Art in Unexpected Places

There’s always art happening in Todos Santos, but sometimes it springs up in the most unexpected places. Like the small, quiet art opening that happened this week on Calle Benito Juárez. It wasn’t anything grand, just a local artist showing his new collection, but it was a nice reminder of the creativity that thrives in this town. And of how sometimes, the best things happen when you’re just walking around, paying attention.

Botanists and Sea Turtles

Speaking of paying attention, did you hear about the botanists who are trying to stop a multinational company from setting up a gold mining operation in a nearby natural area? It’s an interesting story, and it’s been causing quite a buzz around town. As has the news about the sea turtles. Apparently, female sea turtles can store the sperm of multiple males for years before deciding to fertilize their eggs. Who knew?

Local Music and Wine

But it’s not all nature and controversy in Todos Santos. There’s also music and wine, especially at the Todos Santos Wine Club at Las Tinajas. There was a sunset cheers event on Friday, with tapas and live music. And then there was the adios concert at La Morena, a venue that’s retiring after years of serving delicious food and hosting local music. It was a fun, heartfelt send-off.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, the forecast promises more heat, which means more lazy afternoons at the beach or exploring nearby areas like Pescadero or Cerritos. But knowing Todos Santos, there will also be more unexpected happenings – more art, more music, more intriguing stories about botanists and sea turtles. And that’s just part of the charm of this town, part of what makes a Todos Santos retreat so special. It’s a place where you can relax and unwind, but also where you can stay engaged and interested. It’s a place that invites you to pay attention, to notice the little things, and to appreciate the beauty of the ordinary and the extraordinary. And that’s why I love it here.
