Another week has passed here in Todos Santos and as always, there’s something new to talk about. Even in the quietest weeks, the town keeps evolving, always presenting a fresh face to those of us fortunate enough to call this Todos Santos retreat our temporary home.
Temperatures have been staying pretty consistent, with the days still warm but not quite as scorching as they can be. It’s the kind of weather that invites long, leisurely strolls down Calle Benito Juárez or trips to nearby Pescadero. Perfect for anyone looking to soak up the laid-back Baja California Sur atmosphere without breaking too much of a sweat.
And speaking of soaking up the atmosphere, we had a quiet art opening at the cultural center this week. The artist, a local botanist, presented an intriguing collection inspired by the flora of the region. It’s always good to see the local community engaging with the conservation-driven work of institutions like CONANP. The art scene here might not make international headlines, but it’s full of passion and a deep connection to the land we reside on.
On the subject of local wildlife, sea turtles have been spotted close to Punta Lobos. Observing these creatures in their natural habitat serves as a reminder of the rich biodiversity Baja California Sur has to offer. It also underlines the importance of respecting and preserving these natural habitats, not only for the sake of the turtles but for future generations as well.
On a different note, there’s been talk around town about a free diving competition happening soon. I had a chance to speak with a local champion, Estrella, about her experiences with the sport. She painted a vivid picture of what it feels like to plunge into the depths of the ocean, the intense focus required, and the unique, spiritual connection she feels with the water. I can’t say it’s a sport I’ll be trying anytime soon, but it was fascinating to hear her perspective.
In terms of local events, there was an intimate gathering at the winery off Calle Juarez. A local trio, composed of Jenelle Aubade, Dylan Lorenzo, and Jose Blanco, played to a small but appreciative crowd. The wine, as always, was excellent and the music provided the perfect backdrop to the event. It’s moments like these that make Todos Santos feel like more than just a retreat, but a true home.
As a final note, for those planning on exploring nearby areas, I’d recommend a trip to La Poza. It’s a serene spot, perfect for bird-watching or simply enjoying the tranquility. Just remember, this is a natural reserve, so please respect the wildlife and leave only footprints behind.
That’s all for this week. Whether you’re here for a short retreat or a longer stay, Todos Santos continues to charm with its blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Here’s to another week of discovery.
