Todos Santos Retreat Digest (11/20/25)

As the week comes to a close here in Todos Santos, it’s time for another update from the retreat. The days have been warm but not sweltering, perfect for exploring the town and nearby areas. Nights have been pleasantly cool – ideal for sitting out on the patio with a drink in hand, enjoying the quiet.

Over at Punta Lobos, the surf has been moderate. Pescadero and Cerritos have also seen good conditions, making it a great week for those looking to catch a wave. It’s been a treat for our Todos Santos retreat guests who are keen on surfing.

There’s been a notable shift in the air, not just the weather but the general mood around town. More people are out and about, masks in place, of course, adding a sense of normalcy that we’ve missed. The cultural center continues to be a hub of activity, albeit quieter than usual.

On Calle Benito Juárez, the local market has been a vibrant array of colors and scents. The fresh produce has been plentiful, especially the fruits. Mangoes, papayas, and avocados seem to be in season, filling the market stalls with their rich colors and enticing smells.

Art-wise, there was a quiet opening at a local gallery. A collection of works inspired by the natural beauty of Todos Santos, it was a refreshing change from the usual beach landscapes. The pieces were subtle, more abstract, capturing the essence of the town and its surroundings rather than just replicating the views.

There’s been talk around town about the ongoing struggle between conservationists and multinational companies looking to exploit the natural resources of Baja California Sur. It’s a reminder of the delicate balance we need to maintain between development and preservation, especially in a place as unique as Todos Santos.

On a lighter note, someone mentioned sea turtles and their peculiar reproductive habits. It’s not something you hear about often, but it’s an interesting tidbit that adds to the charm of the area. Given the number of sea turtles that call the waters around Todos Santos home, it’s a fitting piece of trivia.

Lastly, there’s been a noticeable increase in live music around town. From impromptu performances at Viñedo Las Tinajas to more organized gigs at La Morena, there’s been something for everyone. The music, combined with the warm weather and the lively atmosphere, has added a certain vibrancy to the town that has been missing for a while.

That’s it for this week’s update from Todos Santos. Until next week, stay safe and soak up the beauty of this place we’re lucky enough to call home.
