Not every week in Todos Santos needs to be special, but as this week comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on the quiet shifts in our town.
For those of you who are just settling into your Todos Santos retreat, it’s been warmer than usual. If you’ve noticed this too, don’t worry — you’re not the only one sweating a little more than usual. We’ve had a bit of a heat wave this week, though it seems to be cooling down as we approach the weekend. We can all look forward to a return to our normal, pleasant temperatures. Even so, it’s nothing an afternoon dip at Punta Lobos or La Poza can’t fix.
Speaking of nature, it seems the folks at CONANP in Baja California Sur have once again shown their dedication to preserving our natural landscapes. Word has it, they’ve recently had to face down a multinational company with planned developments that could have disrupted our local biodiversity. How they do it with their limited resources? We may never know. But we’re grateful they do.
Onto a different kind of biodiversity, we’ve been hearing talk about sea turtles around town. Did you know that a female sea turtle will mate with several males prior to nesting season? It’s a fascinating little fact that adds another layer of intrigue to our local wildlife. And if you’re lucky, you might just spot one on your morning walk along the beach.
On a different note, there’s been a quiet buzz around town about some local musicians. It seems we’ve been treated to some impromptu concerts at various spots around Todos Santos. No fanfare, no fuss, just good music and a relaxed atmosphere, which is just how we like it. If you get a chance, take a stroll down Calle Benito Juárez. You never know what melodies you’ll stumble upon.
There’s also been a shift in the art scene this week. It seems we’ve had a few new pieces of street art pop up around town, adding a fresh burst of color and creativity to our streets. It’s always inspiring to see local and visiting artists leave their mark on our town.
And finally, we can’t forget about the local markets. If you’re looking for fresh, locally-sourced produce, we recommend a trip to the farmer’s market in nearby Pescadero. Perhaps it’s the recent weather or just the time of year, but the fruits and vegetables seem particularly abundant and delicious right now.
So, there you have it. A week in Todos Santos. Not particularly special, but still filled with small shifts and changes that make our town the charming place we know and love. Until next week, enjoy the cooler weather and keep exploring.
