Todos Santos Retreat Digest (7/17/25)

Hello from your Todos Santos retreat. This week has been marked by a shift in the weather — we’re getting those warm, summer-like days now, with the cool breeze that’s so characteristic of this part of Baja California Sur. It’s that perfect balance that makes you want to take a long walk along Punta Lobos or savour the sunsets at La Poza.

Speaking of nature, the local market is starting to see the first signs of summer produce. It’s a beautiful time to be in Todos Santos if you’re a food lover or a cook. And while the town is not particularly bustling with events this week, there’s a quiet art opening at the cultural center that’s worth checking out. It’s always nice to see what the local artists are up to.

On a completely different note, there’s been a lot of talk around town about the recent challenges faced by the CONANP staff. They’ve been working tirelessly to protect our UNESCO-certified natural area from a potential open pit gold mining operation. It’s a complicated issue that has many of us thinking about the delicate balance between progress and preservation.

In more uplifting news, it’s sea turtle nesting season and their fascinating life cycle has been a hot topic of conversation. There’s something truly humbling about these resilient creatures who call our beaches home. Their presence adds another layer of magic to our Todos Santos retreats.

Meanwhile, the waters surrounding us continue to draw free divers from all over the world. I recently met a Mexican free diving champion who described the experience of diving in the ocean here as a “beautiful, spiritual experience.” It’s certainly not for everyone, but it’s a reminder of the powerful allure of our waters.

The music scene here in Todos Santos is as vibrant as ever. There’s a cozy gathering at Las Tinajas vineyard for sunset cheers, tapas, and live music. And La Morena is having an adios concert with a lot of local love and fun. It’s always bittersweet to see a beloved venue retire, but we’re sending them off with great thanks for all their years of delicious food, local music, and good times.

As always, life in Todos Santos continues to unfold in its own relaxed, grounded way. Whether it’s a shift in the weather, a quiet art opening, or the beautiful mystery of sea turtle nesting, there’s always something to appreciate. Until next week, amigos.
