It’s been another week of subtle shifts in Todos Santos. The weather has been moving from warm to slightly cooler, which is a welcome change. We’re not talking about sweater weather just yet, but there’s a hint of fall in the air. And, as the temperature has dropped ever so slightly, it’s made for some lovely late afternoon walks down Calle Benito Juárez.
On my days out, I’ve been noticing a quiet buzz at the cultural center. A new art exhibit opened up — nothing too grand, but filled with charm. The artists here in Todos Santos never cease to surprise with their creativity and the unique way they capture the essence of our town. This time, there was a lot of focus on the local flora. Fitting, given what’s currently sprouting up in the market.
Speaking of the market, I’ve been seeing an abundance of fresh produce. It’s a testament to the fertile soil here in Baja California Sur. I even had a chance to savor some locally grown grapes from a small vineyard in nearby Pescadero. They were some of the sweetest grapes I’ve ever tasted — nature’s candy, if you will.
A walk along Punta Lobos revealed a delightful sight. Sea turtles have been more active recently. I’m no marine biologist, but I’m guessing it has something to do with their mating season. It’s a reminder of how Todos Santos retreats offer more than just relaxation, but also a chance to connect with nature in a profound way.
The ocean, too, has been calling. I’ve seen a few more surfers over at Cerritos. The waves have been pretty consistent — not too big, not too small. Just right for a good ride. There’s something about watching them that’s almost meditative. I can’t help but admire their balance and their connection with the rhythm of the sea.
One fascinating piece of news I heard this week was about the staff of CONANP (The National Commission of Natural Protected Areas) in Baja California Sur. They’re doing an incredible job protecting the natural area from an open pit gold mining operation. It’s an ongoing issue but seeing how passionate they are about preserving our environment is truly inspiring.
Lastly, I had the chance to head over to La Poza. It was serene, with only the sound of the waves gently lapping against the shore. There’s a sort of peace that you can find there that’s different from anywhere else in town. A perfect way to end the week.
All in all, it’s been an ordinary week here in Todos Santos — if you can ever call life here “ordinary”. The weather’s changing, the community is thriving, and every day brings something new to appreciate. As always, it’s been a pleasure to observe and experience life in this small corner of the world.
