Todos Santos Retreat Digest (9/4/25)

Walking through the bustling streets of Todos Santos, the laid-back Mexican town located on the Pacific coast of the Baja California Peninsula, is always an adventure. The past week here at our Todos Santos retreat was no exception. The town is alive with energy, and whether it’s the shift in the weather, the vibrant local events, or the fresh produce at the market, there’s always something intriguing happening.

The weather in Todos Santos has been comfortable and inviting. The air is warm but not stifling, making it the perfect climate to explore the town and its surrounding areas. The sunny days have been perfect for beach trips to Punta Lobos and La Poza. You can feel the shift in the weather as the breeze becomes cooler in the evenings, making a stroll down Calle Benito Juárez even more enjoyable.

As for happenings around town, there were whispers about a quiet art opening at the cultural center. I didn’t get all the details, but the chatter suggested it was an exhibition by a local artist. The cultural center is an important part of the community in Todos Santos, and it’s always worth checking out their current exhibits.

There’s something captivating about the local markets in Todos Santos. It’s fascinating to see what’s growing at the market each week. The bounty of fresh produce is a testament to the fertile lands of Baja California Sur.

A short drive to Pescadero, and you’ll find one of the most intriguing stories in the region. It’s an ongoing battle between a multinational mining company and a group of dedicated conservationists working to protect the UNESCO-certified natural area. It’s a real-life David versus Goliath story, and the conservationists are using the power of nature to fight back.

While in Pescadero, I heard a tale about the local sea turtles. The female sea turtles have a unique reproductive habit of storing sperm from multiple males, leading to “multiple paternity” for their offspring. It’s a fascinating fact about these beloved creatures that adds to the richness of the local wildlife.

The world of free diving is also a big part of the local culture in Todos Santos and nearby areas like Cerritos. I heard a story about a local champion free diver who spoke about the mental preparation and the physiological response needed for the sport. Free diving here is not just a sport, it’s a way of life, and it’s deeply intertwined with the local culture.

Despite its calm demeanor, Todos Santos is a town full of life and stories. I’m looking forward to another week of exploration and discovery in this beautiful corner of the world. Stay tuned for more updates from our Todos Santos retreat.
